Shopping online can be a bit overwhelming when you’re
searching for the best deal. There are a seemingly endless number of websites
to order any given product from. I have to admit that I’ve spent far too much
time comparing prices of an item across different retail websites before. I
refuse to give up on a deal just for the sake of making a purchase in a snap.
Taking just a few minutes can save you quite a bit if you have the right
tactics! Here are my top five tips for getting the best deal when shopping
online.
- Watch prices of items in advance to making the purchase. Usually it’s smart to avoid purchasing something when you first thing of it anyway, to ensure that it’s not a compulsive purchase. However, watching the prices for a bit can give you a feel for what the regular price is vs what a true sale price is. This is even true at a grocery store. Stores in my area often list chips for $3.50 a bag and claim that’s a sale price, even if the week before they were 2 for $4! Don’t assume that anything listed as a discounted or sale price is truly a rare deal.
- Wait for a sale. Once you know the sale price, wait for it to come around!
- Group your purchases so that you can qualify for free shipping. Sometimes I wait until I find multiple items at a good price at the same store. Other times I just opt for the website that offers free shipping at a lower overall expense, Best Buy always ships orders of $35 or more for free, as an example. Another favorite of mine is Amazon because I am a prime member and get free shipping on most items.
